Bromac Kelburne Mens 1st Beat Edinburgh University - 19.11.16

Bromac Kelburne Men’s 1st XI took advantage of postponed matches to move into pole position of Men’s National League 1 with only one game to go before the move to the indoor season. At an extremely cold and frosty Glasgow Green the Kelburne men started the brighter with a glorious chance for Lee Morton in the middle of the circle within the first minute. With the Paisley team looking to exert their authority early on in the game they continued their pressure with some flowing play. This pressure paid off after only five minutes into the game with a superb goal from veteran striker Johnny Christie, who drilled a reverse stick shot home from an impossible angle on the baseline. The students from Edinburgh replied quickly as they found their feet in the game with Ross Jamieson’s shot finding the woodwork. Bromac Kelburne soaked up all the pressure from the Edinburgh side and limited them to only half chances. They retook control of the game and doubled their lead after clever work from Adam Bain down the right hand side with his cross finding Ryan Holding unmarked at back post. The Australian making it two goals from his last two games. The third goal of the game came after a rocket of shot from Kiwi star Nick Finlayson. He had picked the ball up in the crowded midfield, drove strong into the circle and fired a reverse stick shot low and hard into the bottom corner. Edinburgh Uni came out the brighter team early in the second half, pushing hard to get back into the game. Forcing Kelburne deep into their own half and creating a number of turnovers. The visitors got their reward when a well worked penalty corner was deflected by Kelburne goalkeeper Rory Kerr. Any hint of come back was stifled by two goals in quick succession from the reigning champions. Firstly, from the set piece expect Josh Cairns who found the bottom left corner with a precise and hard drag flick. Then Lee Morton fired the ball high into the top of the circle. Kelburne shot stopper Rory Kerr kept the students score down to one with a superb save from a penalty stroke. Managing to palm the ball onto his own post with the ball then traveling back across the goal line.
