Bromac Kelburne's first game as hosts of the Eurohockey Club Champions Trophy in Glasgow started with a 2-1 win over HC Minsk, much to the delight of a large crowd at the sun-dappled National Hockey Centre.

A tense and fairly even first half ended 1-0 to the Belarussians whose muscular, high-pressing style stopped the Paisley team from playing some of their best hockey. Their only penalty corner of the half resulted in a clever execution to put the recently-arrived eastern Europeans ahead.

In the second hand half the complexion of the game changed completely with Minsk abandoning their high press and Kelburne upping the tempo of their passing even higher. This started to create more space for the Paisley team to impose their attacking skills on the game with Scholefield, Nelson and Lee Morton coming increasingly to the fore. But it was to be club legend Ross Macpherson who, after just 5 minutes, grabbed the equaliser from close range - incredibly 21 years on from being a scorer the last time Kelburne hosted a European tournament. With the momentum very much with The 'Burne more chances came: two penalty corners from Cairns were a whisker away before midfield general Iain Scholefield broke the deadlock and put his team 2-1 up. After a quick break a delightful through-ball found 'Scholesy' breaking beyond the opposition defence to round the keeper and finish high into the net.

After this breakthrough Kelburne maintained a controlled passing play for the remainder of the game and secured a vital first win.

Today's game is a 4.45pm start against the Swiss team HC Rotweiss Wettingen who drew 2-2 with Banbridge on day 1.
