Kelburne started the game strong keeping possession and creating chances, although unable to convert. However after 11 minutes Kelburne broke through after Neil McIntyre and Ewan Carmichael produced some good play before Andy Bremmner played the ball back post for a JG Shepherd tap in. 

Kelburne took this and stepped up another level with Uddingston playing very deep. This allowed Kelburne to have some space and eventually a second goal came. After some good play from Lenny in the midfield the ball found its way to Andrew Duff and once again the ball fell to JG at back post. Kelburne continued to put on the pressure and eventually won a short corner. The ball was slipped to Andrew Duff who swept the ball into the goal. Now 3 ahead and Kelburne started to take there foot off the gas. This presented Uddingston with a chance to pull a goal back after a lack of communication let a forward slip in behind and eventually put his shot just wide. Towards the end of the first half Kelburne started to improve again and won a series of short corners which they were unlucky not to score. At half time captain Ewan Carmichael spoke about how Kelburne started really well but shouldn't get complacent as there was still plenty of time left in the game.

As the second half began Uddingston were playing a lot more aggressive and putting pressure on the Kelburne defence. After 10 minutes though Uddingston managed to grab a goal after an unmarked man managed to sneak behind the Kelburne defence to be given an easy tap in. Kelburne started to up the tempo after this and were unlucky not to extend there lead after a series of great saves from the opposition goalkeeper. Uddingston nearly brought themselves within a goal when a flick was awarded. Unlike the cup game in the previous week, the penalty was missed and the score stayed at 3-1. Kelburne held out the rest of the game comfortably to claim the 3 points. That means Kelburne continue there great run of form and are now 11 from 11 in the league.

Billy Anderson leading the forward line took the pushback to start the last game of the first half of the season with the development team hoping to finish with a win. The team welcomed back Dick Donaldson from injury and he was soon involved in the action with a well weighted pass to Fraser Whiting out on the right wing. Fraser fired a quick pass into the D which was just outside Anderson's reach and the ball slid past the post. For the next few minutes the game was played out in the middle of the pitch with both teams trying hard to create an opening. It was Kelburne who scored on the tenth minute when Johnny Hughes played a great ball through to Billy Anderson who crashed the ball into the net.
For the next twenty minutes both teams created scoring chances but neither managed to find the back of the net. Kelburne won a few short corners and Anderson came close to adding to his tally for this match. As the time neared the break Uddingston scored to draw level. 

Halftime Kelburne Pro-Life Fitness 5's 1 - 1 Uddingston 4's 

Uddingston started the second half and quickly went on the attack but the Kelburne defence stood strong. Kelburne set up another attack which resulted in a short corner which was saved by the keeper. The team won three more short corners each were on target but were saved by the keeper. David Ogilvie in the Kelburne goal had to be sharp to save low to his right from an Uddingston short corner. This spurred the team to drive forward and Dick Donaldson put Wullie Allan in with a chance with a top D strike which shaved the post. The development team won two more short corners in quick succession and it was from the second that Anderson showed a masterclass on how to score at a short corner. The ball was injected by James MacPherson stopped and rolled into the D by Hughes for Anderson to unleash an unstoppable shot. Anderson scored his third goal from open play after good build up from Lucas Farndale. On the half hour Uddingston were awarded a short corner which found its way into the goal and on the thirty forth minute Uddingston scored again to tie the match. There was no more scoring and the game finished.

A great performance from the development team. It was good to have Dick Donaldson back from injury and to make it through the game.
We have to thank both Billy Anderson and Wullie Allan for helping in todays game. It just shows how the team can play with the addition of adult support in all areas of the pitch to help the youngsters. 
We have seen this group improve week on week so lets look forward to the second half of the season when we will win games.

Unfortunately the Committee have to remind the membership that match fees for the Hockey season are outstanding and need to be paid quickly, by on-line/cheque payment, or by setting up your Standing Order while there remains time to do so.
This year,  every SHU Club has to pay their Annual SHU Fees in 1 payment, versus the previous staged payment process through the season.   As the most successful club in Scotland, our fees for the year are £6,000 for this year and are due now.    This covers all Scottish Hockey Competition fees, SHU registration and insurance cover  and it's our duty to ensure we pay this in full without incurring additional cost penalties.

Kelburne Kaos Update

With at least 10 obstacles to navigate this day is sure to be fantastic fun! Ducking, diving, bobbing and a weaving your way round the course! This is an incredible opportunity to rally together as a hockey community and raise some funds for the club, the fact that you will have a blast is just a bonus!

On the day Kelburne Kaos will have staggered start times the main ones being 1pm, 1.45pm and 2.30pm. At 3.15pm the ladies and gents hockey teams will have the opportunity of a little friendly competition! There will be hot food and drinks for sale also the chance to buy some raffle tickets.

Men's 2's win local derby

A local rivalry between the two top teams of the league on Saturday 8th November at Glasgow Green resulted in the Paisley Side taking all 3 points and maintain their winning start to the season.   
Thomson Cycles Kelburne started the game in a strong fashion keeping the ball from their opponents for the first five minutes. As a result of this possession, Kelburne carved out their first goal after some dribbling by Miles Goldie who then passed the ball the Andrew Bremner to score at the second attempt in the air,after having his first shot blocked. Western were then spurred on by this and won a penalty corner for themselves, however after having had their shot blocked and then JG tackling them on their own 25 this then set up a counter attack which Kelburne profited from.JG then fed Miles who ran with the ball up to the other 25 to then play a hard flat ball to back post where Ross McPherson was waiting to slam the ball home to make in 2-0 after 10 minutes. The rest of the half provided few chances for either team but with Kelburne keeping possession of the ball nicely firing it round the back looking for opportunities. 

HT 2-0 

Kelburne were looking to continue their winning ways and that took another positive step when Bremner got his second of the game after a cute defection from Gordon Menzies free hit outside the 25 to wrong foot the Western keeper. However western would soon hit back with a well executed corner. The ball was slipped left for the western player to drag flick the ball to the keepers high left giving Fergus Barrows no chance. The game however was quickly put past Western once again with 2 quick fire goals.Both of which went to Andrew Duff. The first of which came courtesy again from a Gordon "beast" Menzies hit outside the 25 to find Bremner at penalty spot. He then unselfishly played the ball across to Andrew Duff to pass the ball into the empty goal. Andrew dually obliged again to score into an empty goal after Ross McPherson committed the keeper at baseline.He then passed the ball the a waiting Duff at penalty spot to calmly slot the ball in for a comfortable 5-1 lead with less than 10 minutes to go. There was still time for Western to score another consolation goal. The player firing a reverse shot at goal from top D and it going in via the post giving the keeper no chance.

Overall a good all round performance from Thomson cycles Kelburne 2's to control the tempo of the game and limit their opponents chances. Kelburne are now 8 points clear after taking maximum points from their first 8 matches. 
Next up is Edinburgh University 2s in Edinburgh in what is sure to be a hard game against the students. 


Men's 1's March on

From a crisp Saturday morning the clouds drew in and provided tough weather conditions as Bromac Kelburne continued their relentless league form with a dominating 5-0 win at Glasgow Green. 

The opening 10 minutes went as expected; the home side seeing plenty of the ball and finding Clydesdale a sticky side as they sat back and looked to hit on the counter-attack. Kelburne started to press harder and this led to the first goal coming from the mercurial Jonathan Christie who jumped onto a sloppy pass from the Clydesdale defender and drilled the ball low past the flat footed Clydesdale keeper.

The buddies then started to find their groove and not long after added to the scoreline with a superb cross from Michael Bremner finding Chris Nelson who slid in at the back post and deflecting it in. As shown in the photo. 

Clydesdale started to come into the game which led to Kelburne's "Ozzy" goalkeeper Ben Rennie producing several fine saves. This seemed to spur Kelburne on and not long after Kelburne added a third with a vintage Iain Scholfield goal. Receiving the ball at the top of the D he easily slipped by the first defender and nonchalantly placed the ball past the shell shocked Clydesdale goal keeper.
 
With 5 minutes remaining of the first half Clydesdale were 6's & 7's at the back; struggling to get a grip as Kelburne applied more pressure leading to another mistake from the Cydesdale defence and giving away a stone wall penalty. Another member of the old guard added to the scoreline as Mark Ralph sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

As the second half went on Kelburne looked to push for more goals quicking the attacking play this leading to several clearcut chances however the Clydesdale shot stopper produced a few smart saves to deny any addition to the scoreline.

The intensity from the Paisley side seemed to drop later into the second half as Clydesdale looked to shut up shop and keep the scoreline down. Finally on the 60th minute Chris Nelson lifted spirits around Glasgow Green as he broke through the stubborn defence and nicely put away a low reverse stick shot under the goalkeeper making the score 5-0.

Another win and a clean sheet puts Kelburne in very a strong league position. 


Men's 4's fail to make pressure pay.

Despite having 80% of the possession and attacking play Kelburne just could not find a way past the strathclyde goalkeeper in the first half. The team were also able to win several short corners but were unable to make them count.

Strathclyde Uni were able to take the lead when a breakaway from a Kelburne attack saw strathclyde smash the ball into the D to be deflected in at back post 0-1
The students were then able to double their lead from an almost carbon copy attack and went 2-0 up. 
Kelburne midfield and strikers worked their sox off but to no avail as attack after attack was repelled or saved by the keeper the closing stages. 

Final score 0-2

Good start from Gordon Martin and  David Bone and a welcome return from Alan "Alfie" Gillies up front? David Ogilvie in goal had a great game with several important saves from breakaway play.

Men's 1's progress in Scottish Cup

Following on from their 21-0 victory over Carnegie, Kelburne hosted Inverleith in the Scottish cup. Having beaten the Edinburgh side the previous week in the league confidence was high amongst the Kelburne squad. This confidence was evident from the outset as elburne dominated possession with some very neat intricate play and pressed Inverleith high up the pitch. this dominant play eventually paid off as kelburne grabbed their first goal after Dougie Simpson beat the Inverleith defender on the baseline before cutting it back to Lee Morton who reversed the ball under the keepers arm.
 
Kelburne continued to press a shaky Inverleith defence and their hard work eventually paid off when veteran Jonny Christie scored a sublime goal. having won the ball, Christie drove the baseline looking for a pass, however with nothing on he decided to have a go from what seemed like an impossible angle and the ball flew into the top corner much to the delight of coach mark ralph.
 
With half time approaching, Kelburne extended their lead to three thanks to a goal from Michael Christie. After a neatly worked attack down the left hand side, captain Jonny Christie delivered a ball into the D which was missed by the Inverleith defenders and Michael Christie capitalized by sliding in at the backpost to tap the ball into the goal.

The second half started the same as the first with Kelburne dominating possession and pressing high. Inverleith were unable to cope and struggled to muster up any sort of attack. despite all this pressure, Kelburne squandered chance after chance, guilty of trying to be too intricate. However they did managed to grab their fourth. After some great individual work from jack McKenzie, he found a foot in the D which resulted in a short corner which was dispatched into the bottom corner by Douggie Simpson.
 
With the game coming to a close there was still time for Kelburne to grab their 5th and final goal. after a nice counter attack the ball came to Jonny Christie whose shot was saved but rebounded straight to Lee Morton who hit the ball first time into the bottom corner for his second of the game.

Kelburne progress to the next round of the Scottish cup after a comfortable win over Inverleith. Kelburne will now have to wait to see who they have drawn in the next round

Bromac Kelburne continued their 100% record in this year?s National league with a convincing 4-2 away win at Auchenhowie.

Having made the short journey across Glasgow, Kelburne started swiftly, pressing high up the pitch and playing with real intensity. Within the first five minutes, a quick transfer of play allowed Jack McKenzie to find space in the ?D? and the Scotland under 21 international calmly found the foot of a Western defender.

Former Stepps frontman, Douglas Simpson, then slotted home the resulting corner with a pin-point dragflick, giving the away side the lead.

Kelburne pushed to maintain their intensity, in and out of possession, but were undone by a long, high ariel ball that resulted in an untidy equalizer for Western. With the last touch ricocheting off the stick of a Kelburne defender, the away team were frustrated to lose their lead. The intensity dropped slightly after the sides drew level and with Western pressing high up the pitch, they were looking to take the lead for the first time. Eventually Kelburne regained their composure and after a succession of passes they found themselves with another penalty corner.

This time Scott Sutherland stepped up, throwing a dummy to the first runner before shifting the ball on to his reverse stick and smashing it home into the bottom right hand corner. 

Western had a series of corners at the end of the first half but they were dealt with by the post man, Craig Morton. Morton kept his composer and deflected Scott McArtney?s drag flick away from goal as the whole of the Western team surrounded the circle for the last play of the half. Having battled hard after the equalizer it was a real boost for the buddies to go in at half time with the lead. 

As the game progressed in the second half, the determined Paisley side showed their quality. They began to control the tempo of the game and produced several chances as a result of this. The next goal would be crucial and after another phase of possession Kelburne were awarded a penalty corner for a foul in the circle. This time Leah Morton fired the ball at goal. His shot was saved by the keeper and the rebound bounced towards Michael Bremner who controlled and finished high in to the net the give Kelburne a 2 goal cushion.

Kelburne?s dominance continued and the 4th goal came from Leah Morton with around 10 minutes to play. Adam Bain, known for his cross field passing from left back, smashed a ball to top circle from just inside Western?s half. With the ball traveling at shin height past several defenders, Morton collected the ball brilliantly with his first touch, went past a defender with his second and slotted the ball under Gavin Sommerville with his third. 

With the result now beyond Wildcat?s, Kelburne looked to be seeing the game out but a lack of concentration resulted in a turnover in their defensive 25. Scott McArtney intercepted the ball and drove in to the circle, firing past derby debutant Ben Rennie, via a deflection from a brave last ditch tackle by Adam Bain. Western struggled to create any more chances and Kelburne successfully overturned the 4-2 loss that they suffered at the same ground last season.

The young Development team took on a very well organised Western U16 team in this division two match. The match was started with Western taking the pushback. The Western youngsters were quickly out of the blocks and had Kelburne pegged back in their own D and won the first short corner of the match from a reverse stick shot which struck a foot after just five minutes. They failed to score but it was clear why this team are doing well in the league this season as they won a further three short corners and each was a different avenue to goal. They score from two of these corners. Kelburne were not letting Western have it all their own way and pushed further up the pitch and on the fifteen minute mark Macpherson hit the post from a top of the D strike.  Western scored a good goal from open play and had two more short corners the first was save well at the back post by Gilmour the other was cleared by Ewan. With halftime fast approaching Western were able to score two more goals.

 Kelburne took the pushback to start the second half. They had the ball up at Western?s 25m line before they lost the ball and Western quickly broke up field where a wreckless reverse swing topped the ball and it sprang up striking Macpherson in the face who had to go to have the blood cleaned before continuing to play. Western added to their tally with another goal from yet a different short corner routine. The youngsters were not lying down and continued to play good passing hockey which resulted in winning a short corner.  Kelburne began to impose themselves in this match and had a few chances but were unable to find the back of the net. Neil McIntyre just back from injury came close on a few occasions and should have been awarded a penalty flick when he was clearly taken out in the D but a short corner was given.

Praise must go to young keeper Matthew Retson playing his first senior game and also to ten year old Jay Berry who played his first senior game and almost scored.
The Development team are progressing and since most are playing their first season they should be proud with how they are playing. With luck those adults who are injured will be back soon and will help develop the boys further with their continued encouragement during the game.

East Kilbride.                                 8

Push back was at 1.30 at Duncanrig High School. It was literally men versus boys with about half of Kelburne?s team not even teenagers yet and most of the EK team drawing their pension. EK started well scoring in the first minute of the game, they went on to have most of the play and score another three goals in the first half. This did not faze the Kelburne youngsters as they dug in and put plenty of effort into the game. In the 35th minute Kelburne received a penalty corner but were unable to convert this.

HT East Kilbride 2s  4 -0  Prolife Fitness Kelburne 5s

The Kelburne youngsters managed a few flurries into the EK half taking advantage of their frequent substitutions while EK only had one sub to use. EK scored a further three goals before Alex Bogan managed a shot just inside the dee and it ended up in the net at the near post. EK went on to score one more goal despite the excellent performance of David Ogilvie between the posts pulling off many great saves.

FT East Kilbride 2s  8 -1  Prolife Fitness Kelburne 5s

The team came off the pitch disappointed but not despondent as they live to fight another day. The promising thing is that many of this young team will play together for many years to come and will grow in confidence and strength. This bodes well for the future.

Ladies 2's Continue to Progress

Kelburne Ladies 2's hosted Heriot Watt University at Glasgow Green on Saturday, in the Championship league.  

The young squad maintained possession and controlled the game extremely well in the opening stages.   The first goal coming early in the 5th minute when Ellise Berry remainder composed on front of goal and slipped the ball passed the Heriots keeper from a pass from Anna McIntosh.  The visiting students were stung stung again 10 minutes later when Catherine McLaughlin found the bottom right corner with her corner strike.  

Olivia Cain, and Marlieke Rademakers looked lively upfront and their perseverance paid off when as they claimed another corner in the 21st minute.  Once again McLaughlin slotted this home taking the score to 3-0.
 
However the Heriot students replied very promptly claiming a field goal from a fast break within minutes.  At half time Kelburne 2's led 3-1.

The second half begun as the 1st ended, with the Heriots team enthused by their late goal.  The young Kelburne team seemed to lose a bit of urgency and for a long spell had to defend attack and corner after corner.  The visitors capitalised on this spell and after 50 minutes had scored once again from open play to make it 3-2.

Kelburne failed to recompose themselves and the defence had to absorb a great deal of pressure before the final whistle blew.  Nevertheless the young squad were delighted to make their first half performance count and to claim all three points.

The deadline for payment of match fees for this season is now upon us and at present a significant proportion of the membership of the hockey section have so far yet to make any payment towards this. 

The club simply cannot function without this income. The match fee is used to cover the following fixed costs which make up the bulk of the clubs expenditure

4's beaten in tough encounter

Pro-Life Fitness Kelburne faced a tough game on Saturday v Western 3's at Glasgow Green With a number of call offs the team took to the field with only 11 players available and managed to keep a very strong Western 3's to a 0-1 scoreline at half time. The defence cleared several Western penalty corner set plays and could have scored twice in the final minutes of the first half.

The second half started with Western pressing down the right wing and with one such attack resulting in goal number two. Kelburne dug in pushed higher with a couple of good attacking  shots on goal putting the Western keeper under pressure. Young striker Finn Haliday skinned the western defender twice to cross the ball for Jack O,Connell to score at the back post.
1-2 and Kelburne pushed on to score the equaliser but with no substitutes the team began to tire. A breakaway from a Kelburne attack saw a well worked 4v3 move resulting in a shot over the Kelburne keeper from 10m. Final score 1-3, A fine effort from the 11 Kelburne players



Men's 1's continue unbeaten run

This week the Bromac Kelburne?s men?s 1st XI travelled through to Peffermill sports pitches to play the Edinburgh side Inverleith, hoping to extend their unbeaten streak in the league this season. With windy conditions both teams took to the field, with Kelburne starting well passing the ball round the back and creating several early chances, however unable to convert them to score that important first goal. 

Inverleith started to retain possession of the ball and a well worked play down the left hand side of the pitch was rewarded with a Penalty short corner. Ben Rennie the Kelburne goal keeper managed to get a foot to the ball but deflected the ball into the body of the post man, therefore a penalty flick was awarded to the home team, which they put in the back of the net to score the first goal of the game. 

Inverleith?s lead was short lived as almost instantly after several short, sharp passes between the Kelburne midfield and forwards tore apart the defence, leaving Christopher Nelson the Ex Scotland captain at the top of the D unmarked with the ball, who calmly slotted it into the bottom corner of the goal, bringing the team?s level. 

Kelburne continued pressuring the home team and their efforts were rewarded with two goals in quick succession. The first goal was from a penalty short corner, with Douglas Simpson scoring a drag flick from the top of the area, placing Kelburne in front for the first time in the game. The latter goal came from Ross McIntyre, while on the turn let loose an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the goal, extending Kelburne?s lead to 3-1. The rest of the first half was pretty even with both sides had chances but the score remained 3-1 until the last minute when a mishap from the Kelburne defence provided Inverleith with a cheap goal.

 The second half started with Kelburne putting pressure on the Inverleith defence however unable to increase their lead any further. Throughout the second half Inverleith had their chances and with good build up play managed to gain several short corners but were unable to convert them. 

As the game developed Kelburne started to create several chances and finally scored their 4th of the match to secure the three points. The Inverleith keeper came off his line to meet Douglas Simpson who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper where Jack McKenzie was waiting to put the ball in the goal for the visitors. With the last play before the whistle below for full time Kelburne were awarded a short corner. Kelburne were keen to secure another goal, which lead to a number of consecutive of short corners on the full time whistle. On the third short corner lee Morton managed to sweep the ball past the diving keeper to conclude the game at 5-2.

This win puts Kelbunre  in good stead for their next game against arch rivals Western Wildcats at Auchenhowie next Saturday.
