Mens 1s Beat Grove Menziehill
/MNL D1 - Bromac Kelburne Mens 1st XI Wins vs Grove Menziehill - 15.10.16
After returning from the EHL with two very positive performances, it was back to domestic duty for the Paisley side against a Menzieshill side who are improving with every outing. This would prove to be a real test for both sides.
In the early stages of the game it was honours even with both sides looking dangerous in attack but it was to be Kelburne who were to strike first through new addition Nick Finlayson after great work from Lee Morton and Ben Peterson.
Menzieshill were certainly not going to lie down and levelled the scoring shortly after. Before half time it was captain Johnny Christie who was to put Kelbune back in front with a smart finish in the circle after linking well with ever-sharp Jack McKenzie. The 'burne, and their youngsters especially, are sure to benefit greatly from having a fully fit Johnny Christie back to his best after long-term injury issues. Christie was to get his second of the game after reacting to a Jack Mckenzie shot that was deflected into his path making it 3-1 at half time.
In the second half Menzieshill certainly had their chances but for a couple of top saves and defending from Cairns, Morton and Bain they certainly could have been back in the game.
Schofield and Chris Nelson were ever present in midfield with the Paisley side having to dig in at times. Menzieshill pulled one back from the penalty spot and Kelburne in the latter stages had chances go a-begging. All in all Kelburne will be happy with the three points ahead of the double-header weekend this coming weekend and will hope to gain some momentum now.
