Kelburne Ladies 1s Beat St. Andrews Uni 1s 4-1
/Saturday 10.11.18 - Kelburne women's 1s had a high press from the beginning leading to a great deflection from Holly Hendry into the goal within the first minute. This was quickly followed by a second goal from Jessie Cuthbertson on reverse. Kelburne remained their high press and didn't give away a goal under the pressure of St Andrew's by optimising possession. Kelburne defence were pressed high by the opposition but didn't give away any short corners. The forwards had good linking play with some weighted balls. This play lead to the team being in the others half for 5 minutes with good play on and off the ball. Despite this play the team lost possession and were now on the defence. However after a few minutes there were quick turnovers with both teams. Lots of pressure from the forwards lead to Megan Ralph being awarded a short corner resulting in Lucy Bliss getting a goal with a drag flick. St. Andrews then stepped up their tempo, closing down kelburne players very quickly. Their quick decision making was also awarded with a short corner. However Ellie Houston was able to save and clear it to keep the score 3-0. The first half ended on a high with good break away play and leading by Kelburne. The second half started well as Kelburne remained in St. Andrews half for 5 minutes. St. Andrews made a break but kelburne, with good play up the right hand side, was able to be on the attack again. With lots of turnovers to both teams it became clear that St. Andrews were setting up half court and beginning to play their usual game. With Kelburne's captain's support the team began to adjust and step up the pitch and play similar linking play to the first half. The patience of the team paid off when Frankie was able to get a foot in St Andrews' D. Megan got an amazing goal from top d with a straight strike making the score to 4-0. With 15 minutes to go neither kelburne's or St. Andrews' work rate faltered but both teams began to force passes. Unfortunately St. Andrews managed to increase their pressure and got their second short corner of the match. Another 2 were awarded very quickly after and the last resulted in a score of 4-1. Kelburne were able to keep positive and patient with some great transitions round the defence. The last 15 mins saw kelburne having the majority of possession, controlling the play. The match ended with a great score of 4-1 win to kelburne.
