Pro Life Kelburne 3’s consolidate 2nd place in league
/Pro Life Kelburne 3’s 4-0 Western 3’s
Kelburne 3’s in 2nd place took on Western 3’s in 3rd place in what promised to be a close encounter, at a sunny Glasgow Green on Saturday. As it turned out it ended up quite a one sided yet hard fought victory for Kelburne as a changed squad put in a solid performance to end up comfortable winners.
Kelburne started well and created a number of chances, mainly from short corners which weren't converted. The pressure did finally pay off however when Davy Fowler did covert from a well worked short corner with a low shot to the corner, to take a 1-0 lead.
After that the intensity dipped a little and whilst Western never threatened Kelburne didn't get too many clear cut chances and any chances were well saved by the away keeper, and often the final touch or decision in the D for Kelburne didn't match the good build up play.
Half time Pro Life Kelburne 1-0 Western
Captain Robin’s chat at half time was about stepping up a level and Kelburne did that at the start of the 2nd half with good work by Will Adams and Lucas Ferndale down the left and Jay Berry down the right causing the Western defence lots of problems and plenty of chances were created with Mark Connor and Dick Donaldson coming close and some further short corners not being converted.
This was almost costly as Western broke several times with some good hockey and only some fine defending by Stuart Robin and a crucial save by Matthew Retson keeping the home side ahead.
The pressure finally did pay off though with 3 goals in fairly quick succession, as Fowler converted with a head height drag flick, Miles Goldie’s ended a fine run with a good shot into the far corner and then after a great pass from Matt McGinley, Rory Anderson tapped home from almost the goal-line.
So, 4-0 the final scoreline, and a well deserved hard working victory as Kelburne stay 2nd with only one defeat since October with another top of the table clash next week away to Ayr.
