Youngsters Making Progress

Pro-life Kelburne 5?s    1
Dumfries 1?s                 3

Hopes were high for the first game of 2015 as the young 5?s played on pitch one for the first time this season. The first fifteen minutes was an equal contested battle in the middle of the park, then Fraser Hutchinson played a ball into the heart of the circle where Mark Connor flicked the ball calmly past the Dumfries keeper to break the deadlock. In the 23rd minute there was an unlucky bounce in the Kelburne area; leaving Fergus Barrows stranded on the penalty spot giving an easy tap in for the opposing striker. Unfortunately for the young 5?s Dumfries scored right on the stroke of half time.

Kelburne started the second half on the attack and in the 39th minute Craig Speirs had a shot cleared off the line. Dumfries had a few flurries into the Kelburne area before a counter attack which was cleared for a side-line ball. John Miller played a one-two with Cameron McIntyre and played in an excellent cross which ended up in front of young Speirs who then made up for his missed shot at the start of the half by scoring with a great finish at the front post to level the game up . The umpire then made a controversial decision to disallow the goal because of complaints that the ball never travelled 5 before entering the circle. Then a Dumfries attack in the 67th minute resulted in a well worked goal.

With this being many of the Kelburne team playing their first game in about six weeks it was a very good performance and the team hopes to build on this at training on Thursday night.
