ProLife Kelburne Mens 3s Miss Out to Ayr

ProLife Kelburne Mens 3s Lose Out to Ayr 1s - 5.11.16

Another top of the table game for the 3's saw an unlucky 4-3 loss to a strong Ayr side in a physical game. Our unbeaten record goes but the league aspirations still burn brightly as other results went our way and we can still top the league. At a very old, sandy pitch in Ayr, Kelburne struggled to find their feet early on against a direct and physical Ayr team , Kelburne were 2-0 down after 15 minutes, but Kelburne started to dominate the game after that and (after 30 years of claiming all of his goals were roofers) David Bone actually scored an actual roofer as he made it 7 goals in 9 games as he touched a Fowler pass into the roof of the net to get Kelburne back into the game. A trademark Fowler drag flick brought the game level and it was 2-2 at half time with Kelburne now on top. Colin McClure on his debut scored with a cracking back stick finish and Kelburne were creating all the chances at this stage, with the next goal always going to be crucial. Don Tervit missed from close range and Kelburne just couldn't convert any more of the many short corner chances. They were made to pay for these missed chances as slackness at the back resulted in an unmarked forward turning home a hopeful cross with 15 minutes to go and shortly after a failed ariel by Magoo went straight to the Ayr forward who rifled it home from the top of the D to make it 4-3 Ayr. Allan McNicol and Ritchie Morgan had great chances in the dying seconds but it was not to be as the game finished 4-3 Ayr. A note for our Juniors who were excellent on Saturday as young Logan McClure in goals had some really solid saves and both Rory and Allan both contributed well to the team performance, but losing 4 goals in a game is always going to make it difficult.

Forward and onward, next week sees another top of the table clash with Hillhead 4's with a victory crucial to our aim of winning the league.
