Upman strikes again but Ladies 1s rue missed chances
/Kelburne Ladies 1s v Aberdeen University Ladies 1s
22/10/2022 - 14:15pm
Kelburne L1s 1-1 Aberdeen Uni L1s
Scorers: Simone Upman
Our ladies were facing their third University side of the season, this time against Aberdeen Uni 1’s.
The students started brightly, and arguably should have been ahead in the first quarter but stand in goalkeeper, Gillian Callander, produced some crucial saves to keep Kelburne in the game. The Kelburne defence was standing resolut with Lois Craig making several clearances off the line and Jenna Brolley and Charley Austin with some vital touches which prevented Aberdeen scoring.
In the second quarter, there was some nice interlinking play between Anastasia Hinde at left wing back and the central three midfield players. Several cross balls in, with many touches just going wide of the target was frustrating for the home side. Jessica MacKenzie, Simone Upman and Zoe Greener all having attempts at goal but to no avail. Kelburnes luck finally turned when Simone reacted to the Aberdeen goalkeeper’s fine save with her rebound attempt lifted high into the net to make it 1-0. Aberdeen Uni managed to get a goal back making it 1-1 at half time.
Though an end to end third quarter, the score remained the same going into the final 17minutes of the game. Kelburne continued to work the ball and created openings in the Aberdeen defence but the quality of the final ball was missing with Kelburne unable to open a lead. There was some good attacking play along the baseline from Ava Graham as well as some close opportunities for Anna Thomson and Simone. Three corners were awarded in the final minutes of the game. Aberdeen’s defence remained strong and frustratingly the game ended 1-1.
The girls look to take the positives from this game into next week’s game, away at Granite City.
