The Kelburne Prolife Fitness 3s march on to 2nd place in their penultimate league match against Uddingston 3s
/Kelburne Prolife Fitness 3s 8 – 1 Uddingston 3s The 3s took to the field today against an experienced Uddingston team and turned in a great performance, running away with a superb 8-1 victory on the day. This takes the 3s Development squad in to 2nd place with just 1 game to go against Rottenrow - victory in this game could cement a well deserved 2nd place in the league.
The game started brightly for Kelburne and after 10 mins, the yellows went 1-0 up from a dribble along the baseline by Billy Anderson who cut the ball back to Niall Taylor who slotted it home underneath the goalies body. It wasn’t long before Uddingston responded and despite a valiant effort by David Bone to save a firm Uddingston shot, the ball hit his stick and foot and a penalty stroke was awarded to the opposition. This was then expertly saved by the evergreen Kelburne goalkeeper Douglas McEwan, deflecting a solid flick off his stick on to the post. 2-0 for Kelburne followed quickly however after with a goal from the 2nd penalty corner of the day. A neat slip back to Anderson from Davy Fowler resulted in the ball being driven low and hard in to the net. Just before half-time came the 3rd goal. After being bundled off the ball whilst shooting, Anderson roofed the resulting penalty in to the net for a 3-0 half-time lead.
The second half started the same as the 1st with Kelburne fully in control but too often turning the ball-over in their search for more goals. However the 4th goal came from a slick move involving the 3 young 14 yr old juniors of the team. A long pass from defence was sublimely glanced in to the centre by Rory Anderson for Niall Taylor to take the ball and drive at the defence, releasing an accurate straight pass to Johnny Hughes making the decoy run, peeling out and then releasing the ball back to Niall to push the ball in to net for a fabulous 3-way goal from the 3 young starlets. The 5th goal saw Niall Taylor get his first ever Senior hat-trick, a well worked goal down the right-side saw him well positioned inside the posts to take an unselfish pass from Johnny Hughes and guide the ball home for a well deserved hat-trick. The 6th goal saw the 2nd hat-trick of the game, this time from Billy Anderson, taking delivery of a great through ball from Alan Ralph and slotting the ball home past the helpless goalie. Incredible to think there’s 40 years between the two hat-trick heros of the day but that’s the Kelburne youth policy working at it’s maximum…! Goal 7 came from a well worked penalty corner where Fowler rifled a vicious drag-flick past the Uddy goalie in to the corner of the net to go 7-0 up.
Then against the run of play, a couple of defensive errors let an Uddingston forward in to the D to pass to another young forward who rattled a goal into the net off the bar for a great consolidation goal. There was no letting up by Kelburne however and with 5 minutes left, Dick Donaldson released a lovely weighted pass for Billy Anderson to steal through the defence and slip a ball to the unmarked Rory Anderson at the back post who guided it home for his first of the day and teams 8th Goal.
Final result 8-1 and a very good overall performance from the Kelburne team. Solid in defence, creative in midfield and growing in stature up-front. Many good things to look forward to for next season.
