Bromac Kelburne Mens 1s lift Scottish Cup for League and Cup double

Bromac Kelburne 4 Edinburgh University 1

After completing an astonishing 12 league titles in a row Bromac Kelburnes focus swiftly turned to capturing the Scottish Cup on a cloudy Saturday afternoon. From the 1st minute Kelburne dominated possession and were easily coping with Edinburghs "Bolton Wanderers" long ball approach - stalwarts Cairns & Craig Morton mopping up everything that came their way.

The first goal and nerve settler quickly followed by Ben Petersen. From the rebound off the goalkeeper he was able to quickly punish the University defending by putting the ball threw the bewildered keepers legs and giving the buddies an early advantage.

Kelburne took this as an incentive to push on and chance after chance arose from some crowd pleasing slick tika taka hockey. Not long after the first goal the second came, Ross McPherson who has made a great impact since rejoining his boyhood heroes fired away a smart effort at goal which was ceased upon from fox in the box Chris Tranyor who got the faintest of touches to send the University keeper the wrong way and putting Kelburne in a superb position early on, 2-0.

By this stage the boys from the capital were struggling to cope with the red hot cauldron the Kelburne fans created and slowly midway through the first half totally crumbled from another Ben Petersen goal; the ex Greenock player drilled the ball past the goalkeeper and in typical Petersen fashion did not disappoint with his celebration sliding on his back to the pleasure of the Kelburne faithful.

The second half started off with Edinburgh having much of possession and pushing Kelburne back as they searched for a consolation goal and it finally came through a Dan Coultas trademark drag flick. From the restart Kelburne went up a gear or two and this led to spaces opening up and finally the 4th goal to bury the capital boys. The goal of the game from Lee 'Pedro' Morton who picked the ball up just before the 25 and drove at the oncoming defenders, twisting & turning he unleashed a cheeky reverse stick shot again threw the bamboozled keepers legs and firmly put the buddies hands back onto the Scottish Cup.

Kelburne now go onto the playoffs with the semi finals over 2 legs v Western Wildcats 9th & 10th of April.

Q-Bikes Kelburne 2s defend District Cup with hard fought win over Grove

District Cup Final Grove Menziehill 2s vs Q-Bikes Kelburne 2s

Q-Bikes Kelburne 2s went into this final against a relatively unknown Grove Menzieshill side hoping to retain the cup they'd won the previous year.

It became clear after the first ten minutes with both teams evenly matched and Menzieshill arguably on top created some chances but no clear cut ones and Q-Bikes Burne' playing on the counter. With such an even game both sides knew that clinical finishing would be the difference. With that said Kelburne opened the scoring after 23 minutes with a well worked goal. Colin 'Bomber' Bryce ,making his long awaited comeback, picked up the ball in space on the right hand side after great work from Mark Ralph. Bomber then hit the ball into the D where Ewan Carmichael was on hand, sliding in at the back post to coolly beat the keeper with a well taken deflection. This goal seemed to kick 'The Hill' into gear and almost replied straight from pushback. Kelburne were sloppy on the ball and Menzieshill won themselves the first of three penalty Corners. The first of which was saved by Fergus Barrows in goals, diving to his right to save a drag flick. Menzieshill then won themselves a second corner and elected to hit the ball this time but Barrows was once again up to the challenge clearing the ball to safety. The game should've had a second goal in the 27th minute when Willie Allan found himself in space in the D but could only screw his shot agonisingly wide after being found by comeback king 'Bomber'. Kelburne were then under the cosh and it should've been all square in the 30th minute when a Menzieshill player beat two players before passing the ball on after committing the keeper, however he could only hit the post with the whole goal gaping. This rattled Kelburne who then decided to take some sting out of the game before half time. The back four of Mark Connor, Fraser Scott, Craig Walker and Connor Bain all kept the ball between them for a good number of minutes. However good pressure from the Dundee team saw them win another corner right on half time. This was once again saved by Barrows diving to his right again to save an almost certain goal and clearing the ball to safety

Half Time Grove Menzieshill 0-1 Q-Bikes Kelburne

The second half began with not much action and a lot of scrappy play. However ten minutes in that changed when good play from Ross Wallace and Andrew Duff won Kelburne a corner. Mark Ralph stepped up to try and score one of his well known drag flicks. The keeper however was well matched saving low to his right hand side. Nerves had begun to creep into the Kelburne side as Menzieshill were increasingly putting more people forward in search of a goal however the Kelburne defence as well as the heroics of man of the match Barrows in goals meant that the Hill couldn't break through. One particular highlight was when a hill forward intercepted the ball from a defender leaving him a one vs one with the keeper. Barrows was off the line and out faster than Usain Bolt to smother the danger preventing another almost certain goal. QBikes then got a killer goal after 54 minutes when Matt McGinley picked up the ball in the centre of the park and beat a couple of players before passing it on to JG Shepherd on the baseline. Shepherd then beat a player before firing the ball in where it found Andrew Duff. Duff gathered the ball, swivelled and shot to score an excellent low reverse stick shot. 2-0 to the Burne' With only 15 minutes left Menziehill knew they had to push players forward, therefore Kelburne just dropped deeper and played on the counter. The defence of Kelburne and heroics of Kelburne kept the ball out with Barrows again moping up whenever the Dundee team thought they were in. The pace of the forward line including Duff and Wallace meant that the Hill were always going to struggle on the counter and the game really should've been wrapped up with 7 minutes to go. Kelburne cleared yet another corner with Ewan Carmichael running the ball down, Carmichael then found Shepherd who quickly moved the ball onto youngster Ross Wallace. This then created a 3v1 on the Hill defence with so many players forward. However the young Wallace tried to beat the defender for pace when it should've been passed on to Duff or Shepherd and the experience of the defender fouled him meaning his team could reorganise. Nevertheless the game was wrapped up when once again Kelburne found themselves on the counter and McGinley unselfishly passed the ball the Duff who was then illegally taken down resulting in a penalty stroke for Kelburne. Duff stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way in the last action of the game and secure a convincing but flattering 3-0 victory for the Paisley side and therefore producing a successful cup defence.

Full time Grove Menzieshill 2s 0-3 Q-Bikes Kelburne 2s

Kelburne will now go in search of the double as they look to claw back points on their rivals in their league to win in once again

A special mention to the umpires and technical officials who were excellent on the day as well as a Menzieshill team who on another day could've won, if it wasn't excellent defending from Kelburne and a keeper in the form of his life as well as clinical finishing from the Kelburne forwards

Furthermore, on behalf of Q-Bikes Kelburne, this trophy was dedicated to the life of Gerry Ralph, a club stalwart, who unfortunately lost his battle with cancer earlier this year

Young Pro Life Kelburne Ladies 3's lose but future is bright

Pro Life Kelburne Ladies 3's v Broomhill Ladies Saturday 2nd April 2016

Kelburne Ladies 3's travelled to Clydebank on Saturday in the West League 2nd division. In the last game of the season the Paisley team were looking to end the season on a positive note. Kelburne dominated play in the opening 15 minutes with excellent midfield play from Philippa Saddler and Cara Bruce. Nevertheless Kelburne failed to capitalise on this possession with shots by Emma Ryan, Lucy Bliss and Lora Caven failing to find the net.

Broomhill played with two very high forwards and this caused the Kelburne team a number of problems. Abbie Houston in goals saved the day a number of times in the first half. Nevertheless she was unable to prevent a break away attack in the 20th minute as the high forward slipped the ball past her left foot.

Kelburne responded positively with strong right and left sided attacks curtesy of Kirsty Loudon and Susan Deanie. Ryan pushed up into the forward line during this spell and quickly found the net with a low drive into the Broomhill goal. The half time score finished 1-1.

The second half begun with Kelburne soaking up some pressure from the experienced Broomhill team. Georgia Jenkins and Eliza Caven put in solid performances in defence during this spell. Nevertheless the Home team scored to make it 2-1 within the opening 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

Unfortunately this lead was increased 10 minutes later when another break away attack found its way past the Kelburne defence. The young Kelburne team kept fighting and pushed key players into the midfield and forward line in search of goals to claw back the deficit. The gamble did not pay off. As another three corners remained unconverted by Kelburne, the team were yet again caught out in defence and Broomhill stole another goal, to make the score 4-1.

With five minutes remaining Kelburne pulled back a consolation goal when Lora Caven calmly struck the ball home during a corner, won by Bliss. The score finished 4-2 to Broomhill. With Lucy Bliss being awarded the Most Valuable Player, after an exemplary performance in midfield and up front

Kelburne Ladies development squad finish the league comfortably sitting mid table. This positive season that has seen the introduction of 7 new youngsters, playing ladies hockey for the 1st time. With such a depth of talent under development it seems the future is bright for the Paisley club.

Sunday 20th of March

Today saw the climax of the Scottish National League with Bromac Kelburne knowing that a win would give them their 12th consecutive league trophy. The squad was in a buoyant mood before the game after their thrilling victory over Menzieshill the day before in the Scottish Cup semi final. Bromac Kelburne assistant coach Iain Scholefield made it clear that the team couldn't take a victory for granted and would have to work their "cotton socks off" if they were to get the victory!

The match started with Bromac Kelburne keeping most of the possession without creating many clear cut chances. Midway through the half the pressure paid off with Bromac Kelburne winning a short corner. Josh Cairns stepped up with a trade mark drag flick, which was illegally stopped by a Wildcats defender on the line. Cairns then coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to give them a well deserved lead. More chances fell to Bromac Kelburne, with one cannoning off the post but they were unable in increase their lead at half time.

After some inspirational words from stand in coach Johnny Christie and club president Mark Fulton, the team started the second half with good energy and work rate. Kelburne were lucky to keep their lead as the Wildcats thought they had scored a crucial equaliser. The umpires disagreed and no goal was awarded. This seemed to really clip the claws of the Wildcats as they didn't create many more clear cut chances. There was one sour moment midway through the second half which saw Adam Bain stretchered off with what looked like a serious injury. Thankfully for the club Bain was able to find the strength to soldier on and rejoined the action soon after. As the half went on and the Wildcats tired Bromac Kelburne we able to punish the opposition with two quick goals. Both saw some great individual skills from Lee Morton, who was able to first pick out Ben Peterson for a simple tap in and then close to full time found veteran Ross McPherson who was able to lift the ball high into the Wildcats goal.

The full time whistle signalled the start of the celebrations for Bromac Kelburne who were crowned League Champions for the 12th consecutive year.

Bromac Kelburne's next game is the Cup Final on Saturday 2nd April.

Pro Life Kelburne Mens 5s record important victory

Pro Life Kelburne 5s v Giffnock 1s

Saturday 19th march.

Kelburne started well and managed to get some early shots off. Kelburne managed to keep up the pressure and the ball broke to Dick Donaldson whose shot was deflected into the goal by Ciaran Willcox in the 11th minute. Shortly after Kelburne won a short corner which was played out to Jay Berry. He took a good shot but the keeper was able to save it. Unfortunately Giffnock was able to level the game with a goal in the 22nd minute. Kelburne tried to get back into the lead with a short corner but the goalkeeper was there to save it.

HT Pro Life Kelburne 5s 1-1 Giffnock 1s

Kelburne looked promising at the start of the second half when they received a short corner after a good effort on target by Craig Speirs. During the short corner the opposition’s keeper made a good save to keep Jambo’s flick from going in. Soon after Giffnock managed to break but Ewan Carmichael was able to keep the score level with a great saving tackle. Kelburne kept the pressure up when they received another short corner. David Magee’s shot from the corner was deflected hitting off the post and rolling in on the 52nd minute. There was some good play from Giffnock but it broke down due to good defending from Gordon Martin. Kelburne was the dominant side for the remainder of the second half with Giffnock creating very few chances. Kelburne had a succession of long corners but were unable so score a third goal.

FT: Pro Life Kelburne 5s 2-1 Giffnock 1s

Well done to all the 5s and to all the seniors who stepped in to make this win possible.

Pro Life Kelburne Ladies 3's play well but lose to East Kilbride

Pro Life Kelburne Ladies 3's v East Kilbride

Saturday 19th March

Kelburne Ladies 3's hosted East Kilbride Ladies at Linwood on Saturday in the West League 2nd division. In the second last game of the season the Paisley team were looking to continue their strong performances of late

Kelburne dominated play in the opening 15 minutes as East Kilbride only camped out in their own half. Nevertheless Kelburne failed to capitalise on this possession and failed to get any shots on target.

The young keeper Abbie Houston had not been tested by the time the half time whistle blew to signal 0-0 at half time.

The second half begun soaking up some pressure from the East Kilbride visitors. With some excellent passing play the Kelburne Ladies transitioned the ball around the back and consequently created some space and time up the opposite flank. Lucy Bliss was denied by the post during this spell, after a fierce undercut shot rebounded off the woodwork.

It was however East Kilbride that opened the scoring after a dubiously awarded penalty corner was driven past Houston in goals. Unfortunately this lead was increased less than 5 minutes later when East Kilbride broke past the high Kelburne defence and again found a way into Houston's goal to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

With five minutes remaining Kelburne added another when Holly Hendry, picked the ball up in midfield and carried it past the Ferguslie defence.

The score finished 2-0 with Kelburne still sitting comfortably in the middle of the table. Most valuable player was Lucy Bliss. The season will finish for Kelburne next week when Kelburne Ladies 3's host Broomhill in a rearranged game.

Bromac Kelburne Men Through to the Final

Scottish Cup Semi Final

Bromac Kelburne vs Menzieshill

Glasgow Green

19th March 16

Bromac Kelburne Men’s first XI went into the Scottish Cup Final slightly light on numbers, Gary Maitles and Chris Traynor were unavailable to due to being abroad for work and Michael Christie missed out with a slight injury. However, the squad was still confident of getting a positive result.

First Half

The game started off in a cagey affair with both teams playing a tight game. Kelburne were happy to sit tight and let Menzieshill bring the game to them. In terms of chances it was fairly even. First big opening resulted in veteran Ross MacPherson hitting the bar with a well timed shot after Kelburne worked the ball well down the right hand side.

Menzieshill’s first clear chance of the first half was calmly cleared from in front of Ben Rennie goal by Josh Carins. As the half went on Kelburne won a number of corners but were unable to find the net despite some well worked variations.

All in all the first half was an even affair and they went into the half time break with nothing to separate them.

Half Time Score 0-0

The second half started in similar fashion with each team probing for a weakness in each others defence. Kelburne had a number of other corners but with no success. Then the deadlock was broken after a surging run from Menzieshill’s Gavin Byres and then ensuing confusion in the Kelburne circle resulted in a penalty for Menzieshill. The resulting penalty was slotted into the right hand side of the goal passed Australian Ben Rennie.

The goal resulted in the game opening up with Kelburne having to react and push for the equaliser. Eventually this pressure paid off when hard work from Ross MacPherson when he found Iain Scholefield in the Dundee’s team circle, a first time pass was then swiftly despatched by top goal scorer Lee Morton, a superb finish by the inform striker.

This goal seemed to lift the Paisley sides spirits and they continued to push for the winning goal. Menzieshill had their fair share of possession for the remaining 5 mins of the game. This however did not result in any other goals sending the game into running penalties.

With the 5 players and two opposing Australian born goalkeepers lined up and ready for the penalties tensions was high. Up stepped Menzieshill first who’s player was able to round Ben Rennie and lift the ball into the goal. First up for Kelburne’s joint player coach Chris Nelson who forced a superb safe from the Australian internationalist Leon Hayward.

Goal were hard to come by during the ensuing penalties with each player stepping up and failing to find the net. Ben Peterson and Craig Morton the unlucky Kelburne players. Lee Morton got the team back on level terms once again with a smooth spin, slotting the ball into the goal. With Menzieshill failing to find the net with their final running penalty it was left to down to fellow player coach Iain Scholefield to set up with the final penalty.

Scholefield managed to turn the Menzieshill keeper well but was taken down as he was shooting. Despite this he put the ball in the goal but the umpire was too quick on his whistle and awarded Kelburne a penalty stroke. Set piece specialist Josh Cairns was entrusted with the penalty and swiftly despatched in high into the roof of the net and sending Bromac Kelburne into the Final of the Scottish Cup.

The final will be held on the 2nd April at Glasgow Green where Bromac Kelburne will meet Edinburgh University. They reached the final with a 5-1 win over Clydesdale.

Q Bikes Kelburne Mens 2s continue good form

Q Bikes Kelburne Mens 2s v Uddingston 2s Saturday 12th March Kelburnes second team set out once again to try and keep their good form going. The past couple of weeks had been encouraging with big wins over Watsonians and Clydesdale and we had no intention of slowing down.

The sun was out and we also started brightly, instantly putting pressure on the Uddingston defence. After a couple of near misses from short corners, it wasn’t long before the men in yellow managed to turn possession into points with a well worked play and a classy reverse finish from Andrew Duff. Kelburne remained strong for the most part of the first half, with flowing hockey parting the opposition with ease and grace. We quickly added a second and third goal to the score sheet through Duff and Bremner; a big victory was on the cards with Uddingston in disarray and arguments. However form slipped in the latter stages with scrappy, disorganised play ending the first half and midfielder Miles Goldie heading off to A and E with a knock to the wrist. The kelburne defence stood strong and keeper Jambo stopping a couple of one on ones to keep his clean sheet.

Half time: Q Bikes Kelburne Mens 2s 3 – 0 Uddingston 2s.

The second half was much more of how the first ended with disorganised play from both sides. But Kelburne were comfortably in the lead and made sure not to press too hard for further goals. As the game progressed, Uddingston pushed harder and harder but the Kelburne didn't budge and managed to turn defence into attack quickly and broke the second half deadlock with a fourth through Ross Wallace. The game was near but over but we kept in search of more goals and found another in the last five minutes again through youngster Ross Wallace.

A comprehensive win but still things to work on for next Sunday against Edinburgh Uni 2s. Hopefully back in the title race.

Final score: Q Bikes Kelburne Mens 2s 5 – 0 Uddingston.

Pro-Life Fitness Kelburne Ladies 3's continue good form

Pro-Life Fitness Kelburne Ladies 3's v Ferguslie Ladies Saturday 12th March Kelburne Ladies 3's travelled to Linwood on Saturday in the West League 2nd division. The sun was shining as the young Paisley squad took to the field and they looked lively from the starting whistle. Kelburne dominated play in the opening 15 minutes as Ferguslie only had only 10 players. With the defence playing high up the pitch a series of corners were won and unfortunately not converted. Nevertheless Susan Deanie eventually got herself on the end of a Jen Owen corner strike to slip the ball past the Ferguslie keeper for the opening goal, in the 15th minute. Ferguslie came back fighting and within 5 minutes had equalised after breaking up the pitch and slipping the ball past young keeper Abbie Houston. The half time score was 2-1 to Kelburne, though both sides looked like they could score and progress to win the fixture. The second half began much as the 1st had started with Kelburne dominating possession and all players confident and keen to get on the ball. With some excellent passing play the Kelburne Ladies transitioned the ball seamlessly through the midfield and found Eliza Caven, Ambar Hendry and Jen Owen often. Ferguslie Ladies had no answer for the pace of the youngsters who were attacking both sides of the pitch and providing crosses into the circle. Kelburne claimed yet another corner in the 40th minute which hit a foot on the line. Another corner was awarded that was calmed slotted into the goals by Lora Caven, to make it 3-1 to the visitors. Ferguslie did break on a few occasions, as Kelburne confidently stepped high up the pitch. However Halliday and Eliza Caven, debuting in defence, were on hand to cover back and ensure Abbie Houston remained unchallenged in goals. With five minutes remaining Kelburne added another when Holly Hendry, picked the ball up in midfield and carried it past the Ferguslie defence. Her first strike at goals was cleanly saved by the keeper, who had no answer however when Hendry refused to be beaten and claiming the rebound slotted the ball past her left foot. The score finished 4-1 with Kelburne continuing to climb up the league table. Most valuable player for the match was Lucy Bliss. www.kelburne.com

Clydesdale 4s v Pro-Life Fitness Men's 5s Saturday 12th March First Half Clydesdale scored the opening goal 10 minutes into the game. This was followed by several attempts from Clydesdale, which saw Matthew Retson make some good saves. Unfortunately, Clydesdale scored again from a short corner 8 minutes later. John Miller managed to run through but the keeper managed to push away. Moments later Lucas Farndale had an identical attempt. Kelburne looked like scoring when Gary Brolly made a good pass to Lucas Farndale who passed to perfectly positioned, Alan McNicol but foot contact was made. Moments later Clydesdale take it up the park and score their 3rd goal (30 mins). A minute before half time Clydesdale made it 4. Lucas Farndale was unsuccessful with a 1 on 1 with the keeper. Moments later Matthew Retson made a great save. John Miller made several good tackles and was awarded a short corner, Craig Spiers was unable to hit the target. A last minute short corner saw Ewan Crawford score with the last hit of the ball. Q-bikes Kelburne 2s make it 6 point weekend

Q-bikes Kelburne 2s vs Clydesdale 2s

Kelburne come into this game after claiming an invaluable 3 points against current league leaders who had been unbeaten, Watsonians.

Next for Kelburne was a young Clydesdale team who were only beaten by a 1-0 score line in the reverse fixture. The game started pretty evenly and both sides had their different styles of play. Kelburne were the ones on the front foot however dictating the tempo of the game and keeping the majority of possession through the ever-lasting trio in midfield of Matt Mcginlay, Connor Bain and Ewan Carmichael. Kelburne created the first few chances making the keeper make some saves and their hard work wasn't in vein as it was Kelburne who broke the deadlock. With great off the ball movement from young guns; Ross Wallace and Fin Halliday created space in the Clydesdale D for Connor Bain to have time for a shot the rocketed past the keeper at his near post. 1-0

This gave Clydesdale the wake up they needed and started to get to grips with the tempo of the game making the Kelburne defence work a lot harder and create a few chances of their own. With Fergus Barrows in goals for Kelburne, coming off the back of a great performance against watsonians, was still in the same mood and for kelburnes' sake was fortunate as he kept the Clydesdale attack at bay for the time being. Kelburne were trying to keep the game under control with good possession round the back, Fraser Scott taking control of the tempo and making sure team mates; Mark Connor, Stuart Robin and Will Adams were doing the same. The next goal however came from the away side, Kelburne switching off for one minute which included a sloppy tackle that lead to a free hit and a well worked move for the away side to draw level right on the stroke of half time.1-1

HT Q-bikes Kelburne 2s 1-1 Clydesdale 2s

The second half started as the first with Kelburne seeing more of the ball and moving it around just waiting for the gaps to finally open. Again they were rewarded when E.Carmichael picked up the ball in the centre of midfield who found JG Shepherd in space and with quick two touch hockey M.Mcginlay found himself in the D and with slight confusion from the away side the ball bounced along to C.Bain who once again found the net. Kelburne had their lead back. 2-1

It didn't take long before they then found a 3rd then a 4th with F.Halliday at the top of the D shooting on his favourable reverse stick side leaving the keeper with no chance and scoring his first (but it's sure won't be the last) 2s goal of the season. And the 4th coming from quick pass and move that all started from Martin Bryne winning the ball in defence and Kelburne getting up the pitch so quickly through M.Mcginlay who again was in space who unselfishly passed the ball across the keeper for an easy tap in for Ross Wallace 4-1 Kelburne with a great weekend getting 6/6 points and points the title charge well back on track which is exactly what they needed after what many would say was a "hic cup" in the two league games previous to the weekend.
