Barshaw Gala Day

Calling all Members

The club is looking for volunteers to support the Barshaw Gala Day event. This has been a good fundraiser for the club in the past.

Barshaw Gala Day
Saturday 27th June

The club will be operating 2 Stalls on the day. You don't need to be available for the whole day. If you can manage a couple of hours that is great.

If you are able to help on the day please email info@kelburne.com indicating which part of the day you can help.

Fete Planning Meeting

As mentioned at the club AGM, it is important that we start looking ahead to some forward planning for this summer?s Fund Raising Fete, which this year will take place on Sunday 9th August. It is very important that as many members as possible are involved in this event in order that we can raise a substantial sum towards next years budget.
To this end it is our intention to hold an initial short planning meeting on Wednesday 13th May with a 7.00pm start.
It would be appreciated if you could make every effort to attend.

Women's 1s Vital Showdown

Kelburne Ladies face the final chapter in a season long battle to avoid relegation as they face up to Division 2 side Inverleith in the Relegation Play Off. The loser of the 2 legged affair will be playing in DIvision 2 next year.

Reflecting on the importance of the upcoming game, Ladies coach Adam Bain offered his thoughts:

After a really good start to the 1st round the girls can't help but be disappointed in their own performance in the second leg. Conceding 2 early goals was always going to make it hard against a team who defended with all players behind the ball.  Especially with the loss of captain and heartbeat of the team Stevie McInally.  The girls did step up to the task but too late and just couldn't put the ball in the net after creating many chances!

However, going into this weekends fixtures versus a very good young Inverleith side desperate to be back in the Nat 1, the team will be looking to turn the possession and dominance shown in last weeks games into results. The team have made a name for themselves as a recovery team...all season they have faced difficulties and obstacles and each and every time the girls have reacted and pulled together to get through.

This weekend the girls have must show a hunger for blood and start to be more clinical and ruthless I front of goal.
Last week was all heart...this week it needs to be a blend of heart and brain.

Young players Maddie Cleat and Lexi Sabatelli showed last weekend that they have no fear and its vital that this attitude is mirrored by all.
The coaching staff have full faith in the squad and it's time that they start to have the same faith in themselves.
This weekend the girls must show who they are and what we as a group are all about.

Both games take place at Glasgow Green starting on both days at 11am.

Men's 1s chasing more silverware

This coming weekend proves to be a big date in the diary as the 2 top teams in Scotland will be clashing in the play off final resulting in European places being decided. Both Bromac Kelburne and Grange will be full of motivation to end the season on a high with both days of hockey proving to be a great spectacle.

The side from Edinburgh will be looking forward to travelling to Glasgow having recently been crowned Scottish cup winners for the 2nd year running, finishing 2nd in the league yet again and now reaching the play off final. Grange will have taken heart from winning against Kelburne on their home turf during the season postponing any title celebrations that day for the Paisley side.

Kelburne are packed with big game players who have experienced it all, many individual's capable of winning games themselves with moments of fast flowing hockey but one thing that can never be doubted is there desire to win season after season and being at the forefront of Scottish hockey.

With the amount of talent on show over the 2 games this weekend it will prove to be a fantastic occasion for both teams to prove there worth.

Captain Johnny Christie will be making sure that the boys are focused and pumped up to get of too a flier this Saturday demanding all players are playing to there "A game".

Knowing Kelburne's preparations and the quality of players they have in there ranks the team will be full of confidence and will be looking to lift the last trophy of the season in front of there home support.
Both games are at Glasgow Green and push back is at 5pm on both days. Entry is also free.

Men's 2's in hard fought win

Thomson's Cycles Kelburne 1
Clydesdale                              0

Kelburne started the game after a good warm up. Clydesdale had the ball at push back and Kelburne pressured their defence straight away. The possession mostly belonged to the Kelburne defensive line within the first 10 minutes waiting for an opportune moment to feed the ball into midfield or to pass long to the forward line. Kelburne were strong on attack winning a total of two corners in the first half which were narrowly missed from the top of the circle. Despite Kelburne's efforts to break through the Clydesdale defence and ultimately score a goal the half ended 0-0. Kelburne unable to break the deadlock.

The second half was underway, which started with a Kelburne pushback. With Clydesdale trying to hit balls through the team's press Kelburne were forced to defend well. All of Clydesdale's attempts were stopped by the Kelburne defensive line, which kept the score at 0-0. The possession was even between the two sides in the second half, however neither team looked like scoring. It wasn't until the last ten minutes that the game started to brighten up with the Kelburne beginning to find gaps within their oppositions set up. With players becoming anxious that their winning streak in the league so far this year was soon to be over, the entire team dug deep. It was with five minutes to go that Andrew Bremner touched the ball past the Clydesdale goalkeeper to award Kelburne the 1-0 lead. After defending hard for a further five minutes Kelburne managed to see off their opponents and continue their winning streak.

Jacket found at U16 West Indoor Tournament, Largs , Dec.

I have been contacted by the mum of a player from EastKilbride Hockey Club who lifted a jacket he thought belonged to one of his team mates, which was left behind at the U16 west district indoor hockey tournament at Inverclyde National Sports Centre in December.

Nobody at EK claimed the jacket and she looked through the pockets and found a photograph of a primary school class from Kelburne Primary School and some post cards.

She says that the jacket is a grey wool rich thigh length jacket and the make is "sandstone".  Since it is a rather nice jacket she is sure it is a sad loss to whoever it belonged to, probably someone in their mid teens.

If anyone at Kelburne lost such a jacket please email me ASAP so that I can put you in touch with them and arrange to get it returned.

Men's 2's in Winning Start

Thomson's Cycles Kelburne 2s      5
Rottenrow 2s                                    0

For the first game back of the second half of the season Kelburne travelled to Glasgow Green for their match against Rottenrow 2s. Kelburne started strong after a good warm up knowing that the opposition would be up for the match. With a few regulars unavailable Kelburne was prepared for a tough game. After a couple of attempts in attack Kelburne were clearly determined for the win, with a number of saved shots at goal by Rottenrow's goal keeper.

Kelburne eventually managed to get the ball in the back of the net through deflection by Andrew Bremner from a pass by JG Sheperd only to be disallowed by the umpire. Kelburne kept up good pressure with build up from defence to attack to find Ewan Carmichael just outside the D to fire in the ball at backboard height, giving Kelburne their first goal of the game. Just before half time Kelburne had the chance to take the lead even more so but were unfortunately unsuccessful in their two short corners. This brought the first half to an end.

Half time score Kelburne 1-0 Rottenrow

After the half time team talk Kelburne were even more determined to keep up their performance with a few more well deserved goals starting the half fast and gaining the second goal again from Carmichael. Another goal was won from new signing, Rory MacMillan in his first appearance for the club, after a well-played short corner by Kelburne bringing up the score to 3-0.

From yet another short corner Kelburne score again, with Andrew Bremner getting the goal. Rottenrow then win a short corner against Kelburne but fail to put the ball In the back of the net allowing Kelburne to keep a clean sheet as the ball slams off the post and away from the goal. Before the whistle a final goal from Kelburne was won by Andrew Bremner and a great team effort to finish the game off with a win.

Final score Thomson's Cycles Kelburne 5-0 Rottenrow

Men's 4's continue to impress

Irvine                                     1

The Men?s 4th team continued their winning ways with a great home win against Irvine 1s at Glasgow Green on Saturday.

The team started well and in a 1st half which they controlled and showed a good level of performance, they were able to head to the break 2-0 ahead, the goals coming from Alan Gilies and Stuart O?Connell.

Irvine started the second half brightly and looked dangerous on the break without creating any clear cut chances. The 4s then mounted a serious of strong attacks, winning several short corners, which led to 2 more goals being added by Willie Allan and Ewan Carmichael to clinch the win.

As the clock ran down Irvine were able to grab a consolation goal but this could not take the shine off a good win.

Final score was a 4-1 win for the home side, with strong performances from the teams younger players, Adam Morton, Alex Bogan and Shaun Jardine-Malone as well as a solid display from the ever reliable David Ogilvie in goals.

Youngsters Making Progress

Pro-life Kelburne 5?s    1
Dumfries 1?s                 3

Hopes were high for the first game of 2015 as the young 5?s played on pitch one for the first time this season. The first fifteen minutes was an equal contested battle in the middle of the park, then Fraser Hutchinson played a ball into the heart of the circle where Mark Connor flicked the ball calmly past the Dumfries keeper to break the deadlock. In the 23rd minute there was an unlucky bounce in the Kelburne area; leaving Fergus Barrows stranded on the penalty spot giving an easy tap in for the opposing striker. Unfortunately for the young 5?s Dumfries scored right on the stroke of half time.

HT Kelburne 1 Dumfries 2

Kelburne started the second half on the attack and in the 39th minute Craig Speirs had a shot cleared off the line. Dumfries had a few flurries into the Kelburne area before a counter attack which was cleared for a side-line ball. John Miller played a one-two with Cameron McIntyre and played in an excellent cross which ended up in front of young Speirs who then made up for his missed shot at the start of the half by scoring with a great finish at the front post to level the game up . The umpire then made a controversial decision to disallow the goal because of complaints that the ball never travelled 5 before entering the circle. Then a Dumfries attack in the 67th minute resulted in a well worked goal.

FT Kelburne 1 Dumfries 3

With this being many of the Kelburne team playing their first game in about six weeks it was a very good performance and the team hopes to build on this at training on Thursday night.
