Mens 1s Win vs Gordonians

MNL Div 1 - Bromac Kelburne Mens 1s Win vs Gordonians - 22.10.16

Kelburne went in to today's game looking to keep the 100% record in place.

The Burne started fast and within the opening minute had the first chance of day. The Gordonians keeper made a decent save.  The deadlock was broken by the evergreen Johnny Christie.  The goal came from a great piece of play by Ben Peterson which allowed JC to finish off the rebound. JC was again on the score sheet by turning in a cross from wide and putting him in the search for his 3rd for a second week running. Again JC and Ben Peterson hooked up but this time it was BP who scored a superb front stick shot.  Scottish international Lee Morton scored the 4th with a brilliant reverse shot.

1/2 time came and went and the Burne had the game in the bag. The Aberdeen squad resorted to some break down play and the umpires lost control of the game. Kelburne got complacent and allowed Aberdeen to score a soft goal. Keeper Kerr slipping before the shot which he would normally have dealt with comfortably.

The game turned quite sour when ex-Burne player Stu Allan putting a very late challenge in on Lee Morton resulting in him leaving the pitch in a neck brace. JC converted the PF and walked away with the kookie and his first hatrick of season. After both teams had calmed down the game was certainly taken by Kelburne. The team started to dominate possession and physically. The Burne scored the 6th of the day through stand in right back Gary Maitles.  After a break down from a corner, Maitles manages to tap the ball in to an empty net. Gary was extremely pleased to score his first of the season and will certainly gain his $10.

The game finished with the Burne down to 9 men.  First Adam Bain received a yellow card and then Ben Peterson a straight red, both deserved.

Final Score: Kelburne v Gordonians 6-1

Next game is a big match away to Grange.

Mens 3s Win vs Helensburgh 1s

Pro-Life Kelburne Mens 3s Win vs Helensburgh 1s - 22.10.16

Kelburne 3s keep up their unbeaten League run..  Kelburne 3's were up against a youthful and improved Helensburgh side and turned up with a small squad as they looked to continue their unbeaten start to the season. It was Helensburgh who started by far the brightest and only a string of superb saves from the returning Dougie Mcewan kept Kelburne in the game early on. Richard Morgan also saved one off the line when it looked a certain goal, but the visitors did take a deserved lead soon after a well worked move to make it 1-0 to Helensburgh. Kelburne then settled down and eased into the game and with their first attack of the game, Willie Allan drove down the left and slipped a ball into the D where David Bone's good goal scoring form continued as he made it 5 goals in his last 7 games when he picked it up back stick and flicked it past the ongoing keeper on the turn to make it 1-1. Shortly after Kelburne made it 2-1 when Bone fed Allan who drove straight into the D to slot it home in the bottom corner. In the final move of the half Allan McNichol was bundled off the ball when he looked certain to score but the umpire waved play on. HT 2-1 Kelburne started the 2nd half well and Don Tervit stepped into centre midfield for the jet lagged Fowler who had also taken a knock, and that worked well as the game went end to end with chances for both teams, with Allan , Bone and McNichol coming close for Kelburne. However, against the run of play, Helensburgh scored 2 goals in quick succession as firstly Magoo was dispossessed for the first and then a lucky deflected goal made it 3-2 Helensburgh.

Showing great spirit and belief Kelburne kept driving forward and when Tervit fed Bone in the D the resulting short corner was rocketed home by Magee through the keepers legs. It was all Kelburne now and with 10 minutes to go a similar move resulted in another short corner and this time it was Fowler whose drag flick took 2 deflections before hitting the net for 4-3 Kelburne. There were still chances for Tervit , McNichol and Alan Ralph as the game wound down but there would be no more scoring as Kelburne held off a spirited Helensburgh side to take a hard fought win. Overall an excellent performance after a slow start and Captain for the day Stuart Robin will be happy with the attitude by everyone to win a game that could have got away from us. A solid debut too from Ryan McCormick who looks a promising talent. Great game. FT 4-3 Kelburne Next Game this Thursday evening night lights game against Kelburne 4s - local derby - come along and watch the action.

Mens 1s Beat Grove Menziehill

MNL D1 - Bromac Kelburne Mens 1st XI Wins vs Grove Menziehill - 15.10.16

After returning from the EHL with two very positive performances, it was back to domestic duty for the Paisley side against a Menzieshill side who are improving with every outing. This would prove to be a real test for both sides.

In the early stages of the game it was honours even with both sides looking dangerous in attack but it was to be Kelburne who were to strike first through new addition Nick Finlayson after great work from Lee Morton and Ben Peterson.

Menzieshill were certainly not going to lie down and levelled the scoring shortly after. Before half time it was captain Johnny Christie who was to put Kelbune back in front with a smart finish in the circle after linking well with ever-sharp Jack McKenzie. The 'burne, and their youngsters especially, are sure to benefit greatly from having a fully fit Johnny Christie back to his best after long-term injury issues. Christie was to get his second of the game after reacting to a Jack Mckenzie shot that was deflected into his path making it 3-1 at half time.

In the second half Menzieshill certainly had their chances but for a couple of top saves and defending from Cairns, Morton and Bain they certainly could have been back in the game.

Schofield and Chris Nelson were ever present in midfield with the Paisley side having to dig in at times. Menzieshill pulled one back from the penalty spot and Kelburne in the latter stages had chances go a-begging. All in all Kelburne will be happy with the three points ahead of the double-header weekend this coming weekend and will hope to gain some momentum now.

Mens 3s Win vs Clydesdale 3s

ProLife Kelburne Mens 3s Win vs Clydesdale 3s - 15.10.16

A tense and hard fought match against a very good team, the 3s took the lead in the first half with an excellent goal from Sandeep and it finished 1-0 for Kelburne at the break.    The 2nd half saw more fight from Clydesdale but Kelburne were playing well and taking the game to them at every opportunity.  Clydesdale however equalised half-way through the 2nd half and in the dying minutes of the match, Kelburne scored the winner from Veteran play-maker David Bone.  Overall, the defensive unit was solid with special mentions to James MacPherson at right back (solid contribution) and to new goalkeeper Logan Mcclure on his debut game at 14 years old, coming off with a string of fine saves in both halves to keep the Clydesdale team at bay.  The Midfield unit, run by Alan Ralph (MTM), was also solid with good interlinks with the forward line who put in a power of work to make the leads and make the chances to score for the team.  Great effort all-round guys, unbeaten record so far this season.

Mens 5s Lose out to Hillhead 6s

Pro-Life Kelburne Mens 5s Lose to Hillhead 6s

A very young development team took to the field against a young Hillhead team in what proved to be an entertaining match. Kelburne missing a strong adult presence in midfield struggled to keep control but the youngsters battled valiantly. In defence William Hunt and Matthew Retson were outstanding. Hillhead started stronger and had the upper hand for much of the match. Hillhead opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a well worked goal. They then hit the bar in the 20th minute as Kelburne struggled to control the midfield. Kelburne slowly came back into the game and won a short corner in the 25th minute. Sam Hunt injected and the ball was played back to him he put it into the danger zone but the Hillhead defence scrambled the ball clear. The play now started to go from end to end. In the Kelburne goals Matthew Retson pulled off a good save in the 29th minute at his near post and at the other end the Hillhead keeper had to be quick to clear the danger. As the half came to an end the Hillhead keeper made a good save from Rory Semple. HT Kelburne 5s 0-1 Hillhead 6s The second half started with Hillhead regaining control and they had a several penalty corners with Peter Robertson clearing off the line in at least 3 occasions and Matthew standing tall making several important saves. Although Hillhead had the majority of the play Kelburne still managed to make some chances. In the 58th minute Roc Hart was unlucky to see a shot saved. 2 of the Hillhead youngsters scored what will be a contender for goal of the season in the 60th minute. An aerial from young Euan Menzies was picked up out the air at the back post by another Hillhead youngster who controlled the ball and fired home to make the points safe for Hillhead. Another couple of saves from Matthew kept the final score at 0-2. Man of the Match was Willie Hunt for a tremendous defensive display. FT Kelburne 5s 0-2 Hillhead 6s

Ladies 2s Miss out vs Ayr

Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 2nd XI Lose to Ayr Ladies 2s

Kelburne pressed hard from the whistle in the game against Ayr Ladie 1s today. The first half saw kelburne go 1-0 down for a short period before fighting hard in the D to secure an equaliser (scored by Molly Cuthberson) just before half time. Although Kelburne kept up the tempo into the second half Ayr were able to find a way through to a second goal. Kelburne fought hard to bring it back, winning 4 short corners in their attempts, but were however unable to achieve any outcomes from these corners and the final whistle blew with the score being 1-2.

Next Kelburne are due to play University of St Andrews 2s on Saturday October 29th and will hopefully leave with a win.

Ladies 2s Win vs St Andrews Uni

ProLife Kelburne Ladies 2s vs St. Andrews Uni 2s

On the 15th October Kelburne Ladies 2's played against St Andrews University at Glasgow Green. When the starting whistle blew Kelburne had most of the possession and were in St Andrew's half for the majority of the time. Lucy Bliss had a fantastic break but was unfortunately taken out by the keeper and was taken off the pitch to recover. In the next 10 minutes Julie Bryce and Catherine McLaughlin both created brilliant chances from corners but the St Andrew's defence was very strong and managed to sweep the ball away from goal. It was not until the 21st minute when Julie Bryce scored the opening goal after a great run down the line by Rachel Bannantyne. However St Andrews were putting up a fight and brought the ball from their own D and scored a well worked goal. Finishing 1-1 at half time. In the second half St Andrews still looked strong and managed to score a second on the 49th minute mark making it 1-2 St. Andrews. Kelburne fought back and after a series of passing Bethany Allan managed to sweep the ball into the goal making it 2-2. Kelburne stayed determined and after making many outcomes in the D by Katrina Miller, Jen Morgan and Julie Bryce, Julie scored her second pushing Kelburne ahead making it 3-2. The midfield including, Sarah Wilson, Jen Morgan, Rachel Bannantyne and Molly Cuthbertson played very well, connecting between defenders and the forwards. With only a few minutes to go everyone worked together with simple passes back and forth allowing the score to stay at 3-2. A great win for Kelburne 2's.

Mens 2s Top Edin Uni

ProLife Kelburne Mens 2s vs Edinburgh University 2s - 15.10.16

In a scrappy game between the two sides kelburne managed to come out on top. In the first half Edinburgh uni came out with all pistons firing but within the first twenty minutes of the game kelburne's first goal came through from a brilliant shot from Andrew Duff. The uni then replied with their own goal within a short period of time after the restart with some sloppy passing around the circle kelburne were punished twice after a loose ball fell kindly to an attacker who managed to slide the ball on a re-bound off keeper Lochlan Morris. The score at half time was 2-3. In the second half kelburne looked a lot stronger and pushed the university defence backwards and this eventually lead to kelburne leading 4-3 with 15 minutes to go. Edinbrugh uni equalised with a penalty flick given from a rash take in the circle which was tucked away just under Lochlan's stick. Kelburne kept the pressure up with more goals coming from Harry Godfrey (2) and Andrew Duff (3) .  The final score was 5-4 to kelburne.

Next week the boys are playing league leaders Grange 2s away.

Mens 5s Win vs E. Kilbride

ProLife kelburne Mens 5s Win 2-0 vs FT East Kilbride 3s

Game 8.10.16

For the 1st 10 minutes it was a tight game as the young Kelburne team adjusted to the difficult pitch. After they had settled down they created the first real chance of the game. Lucas Farndale won the ball in the middle of the park and, as Kelburne pushed forward, they won a short corner. From this they came very close as Willie Hunt shot just wide of right hand post

Kelburne continued to press and create chances and they got the break through in 20 minutes. Some fine play from defence to attack resulted in Lucas Farndale firing the ball home for a much deserved goal.

Kelburne continued to press for another goal with some fine play and resulting in another 2 short corners back to back in the last few minutes of the 1st half.

HT East Kilbride 3s 0-1 ProLife Kelburne 5s

The Kelburne team came out strong in the 2nd half with some fine play from youngster Fergus Noble and old guard William Hunt.

East Kilbride had a few attempts at goal but the Kelburne defence held strong, defending 3 short corners with William Hunt, Ewan Crawford, Scott Peters, Ryan Wood and Hamish Walker restricting the East Kilbride team to a few half chances

Kelburne's 2nd goal came in the 17th minute of the 2nd half. Again a well worked goal from defence to midfield for John Miller to force the ball home to get a goal his play deserved

Several further chances fell to the Kelburne youngsters as they took control of the game with Sam Hunt, Aaron O'Hear, Callum Stewart, Callum Flemming and Callum Brown all growing in confidence and passing and moving to keep the East Kilbride defence on the back foot.

26 minutes into the 2nd half Kelburne's Lucas Farndale received a green card as he had been complaining to the umpire about some decisions. This left Kelburne down to 10 men for 2 minutes but East Kilbride could not find a way back into the game

Kelburne thought they had a third goal in the 30th minute when an Ian McIntyre shot deflected into the net but it was chalked off as the umpire deemed his shot was outside of the D.

Kelburne finished the strongest, giving a well deserved first win to the young 5s team.

FT East Kilbride 3s 0-2 ProLife Kelburne 5s

Man of Match. Fergus Noble

Proud Performance by Bromac Kelburne in the EHL

Bromac Kelburne did themselves proud in the Euro Hockey League (EHL) this weekend in Ireland.

The Scottish Champions needed to secure a draw against the Spanish side Atletic Terrassa in Banbridge in order to get to the knock-out stages of the EHL - the boys were relentless and gave their friends from Spain a tough fight. A well fought battle by Bromac Kelburne, however, the final score saw them short in a 3-2 tussle.  Well done to the boys for an outstanding performance throughout.

More on the team's performance see:

Girls Development Game

A young Kelburne U-14 squad played a friendly this evening at Titwood.  With most players playing 11 a-side hockey for the first time the experienced Clydesdale U-16 squad looked like tough opponents.  Nevertheless the young Kelburne girls held their own throughout the match and drew 1-1 with them.  The goal coming from Ambar Hendry.  Special mention to Charlie Feeney who made his goalkeeping debut and Niall Taylor did very well as he developed his skills as an umpire.  Well done to all players involved👍💪🏑

Mens 2s Beat Clydesdale

In a scrappy affair Kelburne men's 2nd XI came out on top with a valuable 3 points. At this early stage of the season the squad were still finding their feet with a few players returning from long injury lay-offs. Kelburne were put under pressure from the start, by a young clydesdale side who were eager to get out of the blocks quickly. An early blow was dealt when midfielder Harry Godfrey suffered an early muscle injury. However all this pressure came to nothing and Kelburne soon began to find space and chances a plenty in Clydesdale's half - the breakthrough coming from new dutch import Philip Nijsen with a smart reverse tucked away 10 minutes before half time. Half time score: Kelburne 1 Clydesdale 0.  In the second half Clydesdale continued to look for a route to goal, after some sloppy tackling by Martin Byrne they found this opening in the form of a short corner. New Keeper Lochlan Morris was on hand to tip the ensuing drag flick wide. In the second half Kelburne began to link up more effectively with young midfielder Ross Wallace and kelburne stalwart Ewan Carmichael finding ample room to run and to link with forward Niall Taylor. With 20 minutes left these link-ups found Andrew Duff free on the dale 25, beating 3 Dale defenders easily despatched a smart shot into the Dale net to make it 2-0. The last ten minutes consisted of a solid defensive display by Mark Connor, Will Adams and Kelburne's ever reliable Fraser Scott to see out the match. Next up for Kelburne Mens 2nd XI is a double header this weekend, on Saturday away to Uddingston 2s and on Sunday against Falkirk 2s at Glasgow Green.

Mens 1s Maul Wildcats

Bromac Kelburne finished their build-up for the EuroLeague next weekend with a comfortable 4-0 mauling of Western Wildcats. The scoreline does not really reflect the extent of Kelburne`s dominance of proceedings and the only issue for coach Gordon Shepherd is that his charges failed convert that into more goals. However, a string of saves by Wildcats` goalkeeper Gavin Sommerville contributed to the Scottish champions frustration in front of goal. German Jonas Nommensen and youngster Jack McKenzie created the early chances for the Paisley side. The opener was only delayed a few minutes, Ben Peterson found the net with a low shot at a set piece.

Kelburne did all the running thereafter in the first half and further chances fell to Finn Halliday, Peterson, Lee Morton and finally Nommensen, but still no additions to the tally. The second half was a carbon copy of the first but it took the champions 16 minutes to double their total, Morton waltzed his way past three Wildcats` defenders along the bye-line and his cross was forced home by New Zealander Nick Finlayson. The third came when a Peterson shot was illegally stopped on the line by a Wildcats` defender and the same player sent Sommerville the wrong way from the spot. With only two minutes left a Peterson cross caused chaos in the Wildcats` circle, the ball went into the air and Morton batted it into the net from close range for the fourth.
