ProLife Kelburne Mens 5s Lose Out to Helensburgh 2s

ProLife Kelburne Mens 5s Lose to Helensburgh 2s - 12.11.16

ProLife Kelburne Mens 5s welcomed back veteran Alan Bryce as they faced Helensburgh 2s at Glasgow Green. The older Helensburgh team came out of the blocks quickly winning a short corner after 1 minute. This was comfortably defended and Kelburne were unlucky as they headed back up the field creating a couple of chances. But it was Helensburgh who would score first as the ball was fired past Dougie McEwan. In 8 minutes Kelburne won a short corner and as the ball bounced about the area a shot appeared to come off the foot of a defender on the goal line. Although thinking it should be a penalty flick a short corner was awarded. Helensburgh doubled their lead in 21 minutes from a short corner, the ball eventually being redirected past Dougie. Soon after it was 3-0 but Kelburne were still creating chances and not out of the game. They got their reward after 30 minutes when Willie Hunt fired home. Soon after Kelburne scored again when Aaron Primrose pulled the young 5s back into the game. As the clock ticked down to halftime Kelburne lost the ball inside the 22 gifting an opportunity to Helensburgh which they dispatched. HT Kelburne 2-4 Helensburgh The 4th goal had knocked the stuffing out of Kelburne and Helensburgh had the upper hand at the start of the 2nd half having a goal disallowed for a back stick. Kelburne slowly came back into the game and an Aaron Primrose shot from a short corner zipped past the wrong side of the post. It became end to end with Dougie McEwan pulling off some good saves and Kelburne creating chances and having a series of short corners. As so often can happen Kelburne were hit with a couple of late goals to leave the final score 6-2 to Helensburgh. A good shift was put in from the youngsters Callum Stewart, Callum Brown, Calum Jamieson, Callum Flemming, Jack Nelson and Sam Hunt who are learning a lot in their first season.

Kelburne Mens 3s Narrowly Miss Out to Hillhead 4s

ProLife Kelburne Mens 3s Lose to Hillhead 4s - 12.11.16

A veteran Kelburne 3's went up against their fellow tablet toppers Hillhead 4s on pitch 1 at Glasgow Green. The 1st half was a end to end affair with both teams battling for the first goal. Kelburne's defense snuffed out any chances Hillhead had but, with the experience of Tervit and Singh up front with Mc Nichol's chasing the opposition down, chances came and went for the 3's. An injury to Dick Donaldson with 15 mins of the first half remaining meant a reshuffle of the personnel. With the first half coming to an end Stuart Robin earned a green card for a tackle deemed rash by the umpire. Half time score 0-0 Kelburne started strongly in the second half with a couple of quick chances that were not taken. Hillhead then took control of the game with 2 goals form individual errors from the Kelburne defense who were trying to force ball in to areas that were to congested, Hillhead taking full advantage. With the 3's pushing to get back in the game Hillhead got their 3rd of the match. Kelburne finally got on the score sheet with a cheeky finish from Billy Anderson with a deft touch past the on rushing Hillhead keeper. With the 3's pushing to get back in to the game Stuart Robin gained a yellow card for another questionable tackle. With the last 5 mins of the game Kelburne got another goal from an unlikely source. Richard Morgan had roamed forward from his left back position and managed to deflect a waist high shot/pass from David Fowler into the roof of the net. Sadly the come back stopped there with Hillhead managing to hold out. Overall another frustrating game for the 3's who had numerous chances to draw/win the game, including a missed penalty, but came up short.

The 3's will play Uddingston 2s at 4:30 next Saturday

A Win for Bromac Kelburne Mens 1s vs Uddingston

MNL D1 - Bromac Kelburne Mens 1s vs Uddingston Riva 1s - 12.11.16

Kelburne started strong playing with great confidence. Kelburne were attacking strong but weren't rewarded for their efforts. The first real chance came from a short corner but deflection from Nick Finlayson was saved by the keeper kicking the ball off his own player. The second short corner was another great set piece where the ball was slipped back to the injector Adam Bain who comfortable flicked the ball into the net. The second goal came from Miles Goldie who picked the ball up in the centre of the pitch and ran straight into the circle and found Johnny Christie who smashed the ball into the goal. Kelburne controlled the half but couldn't find the net. Halftime 2-0 Kelburne. The second half started as the first ended with Kelburne controlling the game and pushing high up the pitch. Attractive hockey from Kelburne saw many opportunities being created but none finding glory. The final goal of the match game from a short corner that Josh Cairns drag flicked high into the corner.

Final score 3-0 Kelburne

Kelburne play their next league game on 19-11-16 against Edinburgh University Men's 1's at Peffermill at 12:00.

ProLife Kelburne Ladies 3s Narrowly Miss out to East Kilbride

ProLife Kelburne Ladies 3s Narrowly Miss Out to East Kilbride - 6.11.16

In the West district Ladies cup Kelburne hosted East Kilbride at Linwood on a sunny Sunday afternoon. High on adrenaline the girls were keen to continue on a strong performance the day before. Nevertheless the experience EK side looked set to spoil the party and if was not long before they were dictating play. Nichola Brown returned to the Kelburne goals after some maternity leave and was on fine form, keeping the ball out of the Kelburne goal. East Kilbride threatened and eventually broke the deadlock in the 25th minute after converting a corner. Ensuring they were into half time 1-0 up. The second half saw a different Kelburne side, one that looked energised and enthused. Returning to the right back position after a spell in midfield Neave Halliday created no end of trouble for EK down the right hand side. Her perseverance paid off and in the 55th minute Kelburne equalised through her thunderous strike from top of the circle. Nevertheless Kelburne continued to press and push for the winner and unfortunately EK capitalised on this high press and scored from a fast break on the final five minutes. Kelburne unfortunately so. It profess to the next round of the cup, but will be extremely happy with the style and pace of hockey that they played. They return to league action next Saturday and Sunday facing Glasgow Uni and Western Wildcats.

Well done to Rebecca Feeney, Isla Taylor and Kirsty Gilles on their debut 3s match!

ProLife Kelburne Mens 3s Miss Out to Ayr

ProLife Kelburne Mens 3s Lose Out to Ayr 1s - 5.11.16

Another top of the table game for the 3's saw an unlucky 4-3 loss to a strong Ayr side in a physical game. Our unbeaten record goes but the league aspirations still burn brightly as other results went our way and we can still top the league. At a very old, sandy pitch in Ayr, Kelburne struggled to find their feet early on against a direct and physical Ayr team , Kelburne were 2-0 down after 15 minutes, but Kelburne started to dominate the game after that and (after 30 years of claiming all of his goals were roofers) David Bone actually scored an actual roofer as he made it 7 goals in 9 games as he touched a Fowler pass into the roof of the net to get Kelburne back into the game. A trademark Fowler drag flick brought the game level and it was 2-2 at half time with Kelburne now on top. Colin McClure on his debut scored with a cracking back stick finish and Kelburne were creating all the chances at this stage, with the next goal always going to be crucial. Don Tervit missed from close range and Kelburne just couldn't convert any more of the many short corner chances. They were made to pay for these missed chances as slackness at the back resulted in an unmarked forward turning home a hopeful cross with 15 minutes to go and shortly after a failed ariel by Magoo went straight to the Ayr forward who rifled it home from the top of the D to make it 4-3 Ayr. Allan McNicol and Ritchie Morgan had great chances in the dying seconds but it was not to be as the game finished 4-3 Ayr. A note for our Juniors who were excellent on Saturday as young Logan McClure in goals had some really solid saves and both Rory and Allan both contributed well to the team performance, but losing 4 goals in a game is always going to make it difficult.

Forward and onward, next week sees another top of the table clash with Hillhead 4's with a victory crucial to our aim of winning the league.

Kelburne Ladies 3s Come up Trumps vs Ferguslie

ProLife Kelburne Ladies 3s Win vs Ferguslie Ladies - 5.11.16

In the Paisley derby Kelburne Ladies 3's faced Ferguslie Ladies in the West District 2nd league.

Kelburne put on a fantastic show for their ample supporters who were in fine voice.

In the first half Leanne McKissock, Neave Halliday and Emma Ryan all found themselves on the score sheet as Kelburne led 3-0.

Whilst in the 2nd half Ferguslie clawed one back before Emma Ryan, again from a corner put the game out of sight for Ferguslie.

Finishing 4-1

The young Kelburne side return to Linwood tomorrow to face East Kilbride ladies in the cup.

ProLife Kelburne Mens 5s Narrowly Miss out to Anchor Mens 2s

ProLife Kelburne Mens 5s Loose Out to Anchor Mens 2s - 29.10.16

Kelburne 5s home game against Anchor 2s was played at Linwood on Saturday with Kelburne losing 1-2 to Anchor. A couple of late alterations to the team with our midfield general Lucas Farndale being called up to the thirds and team captain Ian McIntyre making the trip to St Albans to support the U18`s Cougars squad meant that the youngsters had to step up to the plate with just 4 adult players included in the squad. The four adults consisting of Peter Robertson, Ewan Crawford, Willie Hunt and Aaron Primrose who has returned to the team after several weeks absence during which he has got married, been on honeymoon to Bali and acquired a hair band. Aarons presence up front along with his enthusiasm, fierce shot and great attitude with the youngsters have added a much needed cutting edge to the team. With most of the youngsters involved in the U15s game the night before, a few tired legs could have been expected but the 5`s got off to a good start against an older and more physical anchor side. Anchor took a 1-0 lead early in the first half but Kelburne did not let their heads go down and came back strongly to create several chances one of which led to a penalty corner award to Kelburne. A well worked corner caused confusion in the Anchor defense with the ball passed across the face of the goal and a touch from a Kelburne player deflecting the ball towards the goal causing an Anchor player to deliberately stop the ball with his foot. Up stepped recently married, Aaron Primrose to take the penalty but the penalty was well saved by the Anchor keeper. Within 5 minutes Kelburne won another penalty award with great play from Aaron Ohear who consistently throughout the game chased every 50-50 ball and never gave the Anchor defenders any opportunity to get any time on the ball. Up stepped Willie Hunt who put the penalty too central to the goal and allowed the Anchor keeper to make another save. Two opportunities missed seemed to ignite the Kelburne squad to greater efforts and soon after the second penalty a run from the right across the back line and pass across the face of the Anchor goal was met by Sam Hunt who scored his first goal for the 5s with an instinctive first time sweep giving the Anchor Keeper no chance. At this point it was all one way traffic with Kelburnes defence of Ewan Crawford who`s timing in the tackle was exemplary, the ageless Peter Robertson who`s reading of the game allowed him to soak up the Anchor attacks and Scott Peters who week after week shows great skill and tenacity in the tackle for a player of his age.

The half finished at 1-1 with Anchor shell shocked from the barrage of attacks they had suffered and feeling fortunate that the game was still level. In the second half Anchor took the lead against the run of play when a great tackle was put in by Ewan on an Anchor forward who subsequently kicked the ball with his foot which was missed by both umpires and allowed the ball to run through to the Kelburne D for Anchor to score their second and winning goal. Again Kelburne responded magnificently with the last 15 minutes of the second half spent almost entirely in the Anchor half with chance after chance being created but with no outcome. Anchor walked off the pitch knowing that they had been fortunate to take the 3 points and the Kelburne squad desperately disappointed but with their heads held high after one of their best performances of the season, there is no doubt that the goals and results will start to go Kelburnes way in the games to come. Forwards Great shift from Calum Stewart, Calum Brown, Aaron Ohear, Aaron Primrose and Jack Nelson Midfield Strong running and link up play from Rory Semple, Rory McNeil, Fergus Noble and Ryan McCormack Defense Committed and strong defense from Ewan Crawford, Peter Robertson, Scott Peters Goal Keeper Matthew Retson who is maturing and proving to be a reliable shot stopper.

Thanks to all the parents and friends who came to watch the match – great to have your support each week.

Next game is away to Clydesdale 4s at Titwood, pushback time to be confirmed

Kelburne Mens 1s Win vs Uddingston

Scottish Cup Round 2 :

Bromac Kelburne Mens 1s Win vs Uddingston Mens 1s - 29.10.16

Kelburne traveled across Glasgow to play Uddingston in their first game in this season's Scottish Cup. The game started with Kelburne controlling much of the possession and creating a number of chances - highlights being a fine interchange between evergreen Johnny Christie and Jonus Nommensen who then crossed the ball for Chris Nelson to deflect in. Unfortunately the deflection was missed by the umpire and the score remained 0-0. Another golden opportunity then presented itself to Jack McKenzie whose thunderous reverse stick shot cannoned off the post and to safety. Midway through the first half Uddingston had a rare foray into the Kelburne circle and managed to win a corner. This was dispatched into the top corner to give Uddingston the lead. As the first half drew to a close Kelburne stuck to their tactics and kept chipping away at the Uddingston defense. With two minutes of the half remaining Kelburne got the equalizer, high pressure paid off as Kelburne won the ball and fed it to Finn Halliday in the circle who then slotted the ball into the Uddingston goal. Kelburne were then able to take the lead when a defensive mistake gifted the ball to Jack McKenzie who slotted the ball under the advancing keeper.

The second half started similar to the first with good possession and pressure from the Kelburne team. More goals were added by Lee Morton whose cross was fortunately deflected into the Uddingston goal. Jack McKenzie added two more to complete his hat-trick, the first being a trademark flick from the base line beating the bamboozled keeper and the second a fierce reverse stick shot after good work from the other forwards to open up space for the shot. Josh Cairns rounded off proceedings for Kelburne with a trademark drag flick. Uddingston scored a late consolation goal to make the final score 6-2. Kelburne progress to the next round of the cup with a solid team performance and move on their focus on to next week's league game against Clydesdale.

Kelburne Ladies 3s Win vs Broomhill

ProLife Kelburne Ladies 3s Win vs Broomhill Ladies - 29.10.16

Kelburne ladies 3's travelled to Clydebank to face Broomhill ladies in the West District second division. At half time the young development squad found themselves 3-1 up on their opponent following goals from Kirsty London, Neave Halliday and Emma Ryan. The Kelburne team seemed to care little for the impressive form of the Broomhill squad. With the second half beginning much as the first had finished. Unfortunately there were a few lapses of concentration and with just ten minutes remaining Kelburne found the score tied at 3 goals each. Nevertheless captain Lora Caven claimed all three points for the Paisley team with a corner strike that Broomhill could do little about. The scored finished 4-3 to Kelburne Ladies 3's who continue to steadily climb the West District league table. Next week will see the 3's play Ferguslie Ladies in the Paisley derby on the Saturday, and East Kilbride in the cup competition on the Sunday.

K3s vs K4s in Kelburne Derby

Kelburne Mens 3s vs Kelburne Mens 4s - 27.10.16

Kelburne 3s eased to a 5-1 victory over the 4s in the inter-club derby although it wasn't quite as easy as the scoreline suggests. The game started brightly for the 4s who claimed 2 PCs in the opening 5 minutes which came to no avail due to poor execution. The 3s then started to take the upper-hand and scored their first goal with a neat Donaldson/Tervit move, releasing a weight pass to Rory Anderson who squared across the D for Davy Bone to notch yet another goal on his backboard. A great move and a very good goal. Number 2 quickly followed with a move between Ciaran and Rory which resulted in Dick thrashing the ball home with reverse stick from just 3 yards out. The game was getting a little tetchy between some of the senior players being very vocal, but ending with a green card for Youngster Jay for backchat to the umpire.. Half-Time - 2-0 for Kelburne 3s The second half started quietly as the 4s GK had to leave early so a kicking-back operation was enabled and worked well for the 4s as it surprised the 3s forwards who became reluctant in front of goal. However, eventually the 3rd goal came from the stick of Johnny Hughes from just inside the penalty spot. 3-0 for the 3s but with the 4s still pushing hard to gain foothold in the game, a nice worked move down the left put Jak O'Connell of the 4s free across the top of the D and despite a last minute attempt by Logan McClure to get to the ball, he thrashed it low and hard into the net past his right foot. For a few minutes, the 4s then took control and could have got a 2nd goal but it took a nice move from Dick to squeeze the ball home to return to the 3-goal cushion and a 4-1 lead. It wouldnt be long before another quick move from these 3 youngsters result in Johnny missing an open goal from 5 yards out. So far the miss of the season for sure..! Another drag flick PC from Niall Taylor forced a miracle save by stand-in keeper Steve Bain. The 5th goal soon came from a well-executed PC into the bottom corner from Davy Fowler which proved to be the final goal of the night and a 5-1 victory for the 3s team, taking them to 2nd position in the league with a game in hand. Final SCORE 5-1
